Like
every year since 5 years now, the sport department of Radio France
Internationale (RFI) chooses the top 10 best Africans playing in French
football Ligue 1. A jury composed of 93 journalists are called upon to
choose the best among them, who will become the best African player of
Ligue 1.
There are 10 players in the list. Jordan & Andre
Ayew from Ghana, Aissa Mandi from Algeria, Aymen Abdennour from
Tunisia, Max-Alain Gradel from Cote d’Ivoire, Vincent Enyeama from
Nigeria, Benjamin Moukandjo & Clinton Njie from Cameroon.
The Marc-Vivien Foe Award, named after the
Cameroonian player who died during an encounter of the Confederations
Cup in 2003, is an award attributed to the best African player of Ligue
1 as mentioned earlier. this Award was created in 2009 by RFI, then
since 2011, it has been a joint collaboration between RFI and France 24.
the holder of the last Award is Vincent Enyeama from Nigeria.
Apart from Vincent Enyeama, the award has been won
by Marouane Chamakh from Morocco (2009), Gervinho fron Cote d’Ivoire
in 2010 & 2011, Younès Bemhanda from Morocco in 2012,
and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fron Gabon in 2013.
